Choosing Indian Holiday Destinations: Kerala or Rajasthan?

Booking flights headed for India is a sure shot way to ensure a memorable holiday experience. But India is home to so many different sights and sounds that it often becomes exceedingly difficult to decide where to book the air tickets for! A common example of this conundrum is when travellers have to choose between visiting Rajasthan and Kerala, two the most popular holiday destinations in India. Following is some important information to help you make an educated decision before booking tickets aboard flights that terminate at a leading holiday destination in India.

Kerala is best known for its incredibly scenic backwaters and unmatched coastal scenery. For those travellers looking to rejuvenate themselves in the lap of nature, while just lazing around baking the sun, this is the best option in India. Apart from popular activities like sightseeing aboard boats, moving through the sluggish backwaters and waterways, there are bustling markets and tasty local cuisine too. The Ayurvedic spas operating in this state are also popular among the thousands of foreign tourists who purchase air tickets to the country. Additionally, the hill station of Munnar provides the perfect getaway to any foreign tourists who book air tickets to this region of India. The state features a world class international airport at the leading urban centre of Kochi which handles flights from all over the world.

Rajasthan is the ideal place to visit for any foreign tourist who wants to delve into India’s rich cultural heritage. Originally comprised of many independent princely states, the landscape of this Indian state is dotted with numerous forts, ancient townships and palaces that are too numerous to count. Top places to visit in this part of India include Jaipur, Udaipur and Jaisalmer. Those booking tickets aboard flights terminating in the Pink City of Jaipur can visit its bustling local markets as well as numerous historic attractions such as the City Palace, Amer Fort and Jantar Mantar among others. Travellers who make their way to other popular destinations such as Udaipur and Jaisalmer are also sure to be greeted by various sights and sounds that are sure to be memorable long after they have boarded their long-haul flights back to home. Jaisalmer also offers tourists access to a variety of desert fun activities like dune buggying, off-road driving and camel rides due to its proximity to India’s Thar Desert.

Tourism in Northeast India Picks up Steam

It seems that Northeast India has finally spread its wings of charms and is able to tempt vacationers to book flights tickets and plan holidays here. Media reports in India indicate that there is a significant rise in the numbers of holidaymakers, both foreign and domestic, who are visiting the beautiful and relatively unexplored region. While there has been a 20%-29% more foreign tourist arrivals in Manipur, Tripura and Nagaland, the number of domestic tourists booking flight or train tickets to Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland has seen a 36%-41% increase.

Up till recently, these north-eastern states were not the biggest of attractions for foreigners bagging tickets on flights to tour India. Even domestic vacationers weren’t too keen on reserving travel tickets for this part of India. Availability of flights and security concerns were the major reasons why this region of the country hasn’t picked up in terms of tourism unlike other Indian destinations like Goa and Kerala.

However, there has been some work done by the government authorities in the area and resultantly there is an upward swing in the number of vacationers travelling to northeast. Even attractive travel packages are available now, which makes it even more congenial for keen explorers to get hold of seats on flights arriving in the north east.
Experts also believe that cultural festivals and events in the north east have played their part in encouraging foreign and Indian vacationers to consider booking flights tickets for the region.

3 Most Coveted Beach Destinations in India

In the multihued country of India, there is no dearth of gorgeous beaches; some highly coveted and some lesser-known. But one thing common for most of them is that they are awesomely beautiful and offer the visitors a delightful amalgamation of sea, sand and surf. Travellers in hordes take holidays’ packages to these stunning beaches to leave behind their mundane worries or have a gala time before they turn their heels back.

Here are 3 most favourite beach destinations in India.

Goa: When it comes to popular beach holidays in India amongst international tourists, this tiny Indian state scores over the majority, or perhaps all. An endearing entourage of beautiful beachside, some vibrant and some tranquil, make it a favourite haunt of travellers seeking fun-filled packages for holidays. Besides, Goa is a great place for those who wish to witness some colonial landmarks and catholic churches in India.

Kerala: Though serene backwaters and surreal hills are the main highlights of Kerala packages, the state has no dearth of stunning beaches that welcome holidaymakers with superb blend of sea, sun and sand. Kovalam and Varkala are some of the most amazing venues that always cast on visitors a magical spell. Cochin, Kozikhode and Cherai are also some places which entice ‘sand-surf’ fanatics to book Kerala holidays in India.

Andaman: Andaman has emerged as one of the top seaside destinations for international tourists in the subcontinent. It may look a tad remote, located in the heart of the Bay of Bengal, but holiday packages to this place are widely available because of its increasing popularity as a fantastic destination. Radhanagar and Corbyn’s Cove are some places in Andaman where you can really see the sea at its best mood.

India Travel Menu

The exotic land of India with deep jungles, meandering rivers, looming mountains, time forgotten villages, haunting historical buildings, colonial architecture, countless vernaculars and excellent cuisines offers a bewildering array of exciting vacationing activities. If you are addicted to skiing and other winter sports, visit Gulmarg during December to April and at a fraction of the cost that one would incur at the Swiss Alps. Gulmarg also boasts world’s highest golf course. If beaches are your idea of fun, head to laidback Goa with its delightful Portuguese ambience or scenic Kerala. Definitely not to be missed is the world famous adrenaline pumping white water rafting on the raging currents of the Ganges at Rishikesh. This activity has seduced quite a few celebrities – Sir Edmund Hillary and Brad Pitt to name just two. With most airlines operating flights to India from Heathrow, visiting this destination is a breeze.

Step back into time at the Mathoor village of Karnataka. Here Sanskrit (supposed to be the world’s oldest language) is the language of choice. One can revisit shades of quaint colonial life at the sleepy hamlet of Jharkhand’s McCluskieganj. Watch Kamasutra coming alive in stone sculptures at Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. The famous golden triangle tour of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur is a wonderful lesson in history. Here, one gets the opportunity to behold the architectural wonders of the awe inspiring Red Fort and the magnificent Taj Mahal. Jaipur, known as the Pink City, is jam packed with havelis, forts, and other grand remnants of India’s rich royal past.

Hill lovers may have a tough time selecting a hill destination as there are so many of them. Every hill station outdoes the other – be it Kashmir, known as the Switzerland of India, or Darjeeling with its dazzling view of KanchanJunga, supposedly the world’s second highest mountain peak. Another rare treat is the Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand, a riot of colourful flowers and butterflies during the summer months of June to September.

India, with scores of wildlife sanctuaries and national parks, is also a boon for wildlife enthusiasts. Just some of the most famous ones are The Corbett National Park, the Sunderbans Delta with its notorious man eating tigers, the Kaziranga Rhino Sanctuary, the Kanha National Park, and the Gir Forests, home to the Asiatic Lion, which is on the verge of extinction.

With innumerable temples and pilgrimages, India also acts as panacea to the soul who seeks solace in Eastern mysticism. Every Indian city will leave you with fond memories, be it the ‘City of Joy’ (Kolkata) or ‘City of Pearls’ (Hyderabad). In fact, India may well be your best bet if you want quality but cheap holidays.
