India pledges to offer great hygiene at top tourist sites

India could become an even more attractive holiday destination with the implementation of a new hygiene initiative at some of the country's top attractions.

The tourist ministry is aiming to provide clean and fresh environments at 98 destinations in India, including the world famous Taj Mahal, Dal Lake and the Red Fort.

It is hoped this will have a significant impact on tourist numbers, eventually doubling the visitor count from six million foreign tourists to 12 million.

Some of the features in the Clean India scheme include 24 hour waste disposal services, comprehensive site maintenance and new easier to understand signage.
