Cadel Evans makes hero's return to Melbourne

Cadel Evans has made it back to Australia following his Tour de France victory.

Travellers with flights to Melbourne may soon be able to see Cadel Evans in his hometown following his victory in the Tour de France.

The cyclist made history when he became the first Australian to scoop victory in the iconic cycling road race, which spans the length of France.

Despite his victory, he told reporters one of the best things about coming home was getting a hug from his mum.

"I'm just happy that everyone enjoyed following it and seeing it and to come out on top finally on the Champs-Elysees - it's the culmination of many, many years of work," Evans said.

The city is set to host a parade in Evans' honour on Friday August 12th 2011.
