Thai election to 'boost tourism'

Tourism Authority of Thailand says that the upcoming election will boost tourism in the country.

The upcoming general election in Thailand will boost the tourism industry, suggests the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

TAT believes that if things continue as they are, the country will achieve its international visitor target of 16.5 million for 2011, reported the Bangkok Post.

Visitors arriving on flights to Thailand come mainly from East and Southeast Asia.

Russia is the fastest growing European country in terms of increased flights to Thailand, with Russian tourists tending to visit the city of Pattaya.
The second biggest group of tourists to get on flights to Thailand were the British, followed by the Germans, French and the Swiss.

The weakest growth has been from the Middle East, which is seen as a result of the widespread political unrest affecting the region.
