Dubai to bid for 2024 Olympic Games

Dubai has dropped its interest in hosting the 2020 Olympic Games in favour of the 2024 occasion.

Sports enthusiasts may soon be booking cheap flights to Dubai for the 2024 Olympic Games if the emirate's bid is successful.

Taking place at the world-famous Jeffrey's Bay surf beach, the tournament is the fourth date on the tour's calendar.

Dubai airport expansion plan approved

Dubai Airport has received permission to go ahead with a major expansion of its facilities.

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have approved the plans for Dubai Airport to embark on a $7.8 billion (£4.9 billion) extension to the existing facility, which will allow an additional 30 million passengers to use the hub each year.

The development will add 675,000 square metres to the airport's floor space, making its footprint twice the size of London Heathrow's Terminal 5.

Brisbane 'to become Australia's rugby union heartland'

Culture vultures who are set to jet off on cheap flights to Melbourne in the coming months may wish to pay a visit to the newly established Islamic Museum of Australia (IMA).

The attraction, which is located in the suburb of Northcote, complements a number of other Melbourne institutions that celebrate the city's cultural diversity, including the Hellenic Museum and the Chinese Museum.

Speaking at the gala dinner to mark the launch of the IMA, minister for multicultural affairs and citizenship Nicholas Kotsiras backed the venue to enhance Victoria's reputation as a "thriving, cohesive and cosmopolitan state".

He added: "It will dispel myths and misconceptions, and work towards creating an understanding, compassionate and cohesive society. It is a noble vision; it is a worthy vision."

Sydney Opera House to host The Planets - A Journey in HD

A stunning new show will combine Holst's The Planets with real images of outer space.


The Planets - A Journey in HD is a new show available to people who have taken cheap flights to Sydney.

It combines the dramatic orchestral force of Gustav Holst's acclaimed composition with high definition images of space captured by NASA probes and the Hubble telescope.

This unique performance at the Sydney Opera House will see Emmanuel Pahud, principal flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic, take a central role in the first half of the show.

"Holst's Planets wasn't written for the movies, but it could have been - it has the monumental character and emotional force of a great film score," the organisers pointed out.

As well as Pahud, the performance will feature the ladies of the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and conductor Ludovic Morlot.

It will be staged at 20:00 local time on July 8th and 9th and 19:00 on July 11th.

The Grand Opening of the Thailand vs Challenger season will take place on July 23rd.


Martial arts enthusiasts taking cheap flights to Bangkok could check out the Thailand vs Challenger Grand Opening, which takes place at the destination's River City Hall on July 23rd.

The show, organised by Elite Boxing, will see several Muay Thai fighters from the country take on overseas challengers in a series of bouts that boasts the tagline 'Defending National Pride'.

Antuan Sianboxing, Cyrus Washington and Valdet Gashi from France, the US and Germany are the opponents currently signed up, with more due to follow.

On the home side will be superstars Kaoklai Kaennorsing, Nonsai Sor Sanyakorn and Bovy Sor Udomsor among others.

Co-founder and managing director of Elite Boxing Toli Makris said: "Despite the success we had with the events abroad last year, it was very important for us to keep the Grand Opening in Thailand, as this is the home of Muay Thai."
