Singapore Airlines Plans to Increase India Operations

Singapore Airlines (SIA) is planning on expanding its flights network in India, says a media report. The airline is likely to introduce new services as well as augment current frequencies on its India route.

The carrier currently runs close to 100 flights a week to India and in words of Singapore Airlines’ General Manager, India, G M Toh, the operator “hope to achieve the landmark this year.”

SIA is planning to launch new flights to cities such as Pune, and increase existing services to Delhi, providing extra opportunities to fliers who look to book tickets with SIA for travelling on the route.

The operator is expected to face intense competition from AirAsia, which will shortly commence operations to India. Air India is another carrier that would most likely pose a challenge to SIA. The Indian carrier is planning to offer tickets for direct flights between Delhi and Melbourne.

SIA’s management, however, remains unfazed. Mr G M Toh believes that it is not just cheap air tickets that are going to determine which carrier the traveller is opting for when it comes to booking flight tickets. Factors such as schedule, service and reliability play a vital role too and could influence a passenger who is looking for travel tickets.

There are also reports that India and Singapore have revised the air service accord to approve more flights between the two countries.
