Tourism in Northeast India Picks up Steam

It seems that Northeast India has finally spread its wings of charms and is able to tempt vacationers to book flights tickets and plan holidays here. Media reports in India indicate that there is a significant rise in the numbers of holidaymakers, both foreign and domestic, who are visiting the beautiful and relatively unexplored region. While there has been a 20%-29% more foreign tourist arrivals in Manipur, Tripura and Nagaland, the number of domestic tourists booking flight or train tickets to Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland has seen a 36%-41% increase.

Up till recently, these north-eastern states were not the biggest of attractions for foreigners bagging tickets on flights to tour India. Even domestic vacationers weren’t too keen on reserving travel tickets for this part of India. Availability of flights and security concerns were the major reasons why this region of the country hasn’t picked up in terms of tourism unlike other Indian destinations like Goa and Kerala.

However, there has been some work done by the government authorities in the area and resultantly there is an upward swing in the number of vacationers travelling to northeast. Even attractive travel packages are available now, which makes it even more congenial for keen explorers to get hold of seats on flights arriving in the north east.
Experts also believe that cultural festivals and events in the north east have played their part in encouraging foreign and Indian vacationers to consider booking flights tickets for the region.
