Visit the National Museum of India in New Delhi

The National Museum of India can be found in Janpath, Delhi.

The National Museum of India, in New Delhi, boasts a wealth of exciting artefacts and paraphernalia from across the last 5,000 years of the nation's history.

It houses and maintains more than 200,000 works of art, including those by some of India's finest painters and a number from the rest of the world.

Culture vultures booking their flights to Delhi will find so much to explore in this wonderful repository of human knowledge and achievement, which is housed in a grand building in Janpath.

It also contains the National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Museology, which is today recognised as a Deemed University.

Worth a particular mention is the National Museum's Buddhist collections, which contain plenty of sacred relics from the fifth and fourth centuries BCE that were discovered at an excavation site in Piprehwa, Basti district.
