Virgin Atlantic to Start Daily Delhi-London-New York Flights

British airline, Virgin Atlantic announced the launch of daily flights service from India connecting Delhi with New York. The flights will operate with a quick connection at London Heathrow from October 28, 2012.

 

The flights are sure to benefit British, American and Indian passengers with convenient connections and higher availability of seats on flights to India, UK and USA’s most important cities which are popular centres for business and leisure.

 

The new flights to New York’s JFK complement the airline’s existing same day connection from Delhi to Newark via London Heathrow, which turned out to be a major success. Sources reveal that it has remained consistently a top choice on the Delhi-Newark route this year with over 50 per cent growth year-on-year in terms of traffic out of India.

 

The increasing traffic on the Newark route indicates that most passengers prefer to take a connection for unwinding and indulging in some duty-free shopping.

 

With the launch of new flights between India’s capital and USA’s financial hub, the airline hopes to repeat the success story of its existing connection between two cities.

 

As per the airline’s flight schedule, a daily flight from Delhi would arrive at London Heathrow shortly before 6 p.m. (local time) and will depart for JFK at 7:25 p.m. (local time). At around 11:30 p.m. (local time), the flight will arrive in JFK.

 

India is one of the key markets for Virgin Atlantic and the airline is targeting to connect more passengers from India’s capital to JFK and Newark.

Virgin Atlantic shows interest in BMI

BMI could be picked up by Virgin Atlantic as the former's owner Lufthansa considers its options.

Leading airline Virgin Atlantic has shown an interest in British Midland International (BMI), after Lufthansa ramped up its efforts to offload the carrier.

A spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic told the Wall Street Journal that the company had a "close interest in a combination with BMI".

Emirates, another airline expected to show interest in the British carrier has ruled itself out of a takeover.

The firm said: "[Emirates] is focused on its own growth, and has no plans to acquire BMI or any other airline."

Other airlines including Etihad Airways and Air France-KLM were expected to consider an acquisition of the budget carrier.

It is expected that a tie-up between BMI and Virgin Atlantic would help the latter better service its long-haul trips - including flights to Australia.

Virgin Atlantic to grow vegetables in-flight?

The global airline joined in with the April Fools Day fun today, with a suspicious new announcement.

International airline Virgin Atlantic tried to pull a fast one this morning (April 1st), with the joke announcement that it was planning to grow its own vegetables and herbs at 50,000 feet.

The air carrier claimed that it would be running a trial service to introduce fresher food to its Upper Class passengers, with plans to roll out the service to all customers if successful.

Virgin Atlantic's suspicious choice of launch date raised eyebrows among many travel experts, especially when it said it would be giving its cabin crew lessons from the Royal Horticultural Society.
