Thailand 'still an affordable holiday destination'

Thailand is still one of the most affordable places for travellers to head to on holiday.

People booking cheap flights to Thailand could be pleased to know that the nation still ranks among the most cost effective places to visit in the world.

A study of the most affordable places to visit in the world by the Post Office found that of the 28 countries assessed, Thailand was ranked in second place.

While Sri Lanka was found to be first, travellers to Thailand can still expect to pay just £51.48 per day for a basket of ten items.

Among these was a meal for two which included wine, showing that travellers can still live well and not have to cut back on spending.

"After a summer when the weak UK pound bought less holiday cash in Europe, tourists heading further afield for winter sun can look forward to seeing their pounds stretch further in most long haul destinations," said Sarah Munro, Post Office head of travel money.
