Mumbai to trial travel card project

Mumbai is to test out a new travel card project which will be called the Go India card.

Mumbai has announced it is to trial a new travel smartcard which will be called the Go India card.

As ticket vending machines and smartcards become popular in other regions of the country, the city is to try introducing the new product which has been developed by the Ministry of Railways.

So far, the project is still in its development stage but KH Muniyappa, minister of state for railways has said that it is yet to encounter any problems.

The system has been based on the Oyster card that is used on London's transport services.

"The new Go India card is a fool-proof national smart card that can be used as cashless ticket on all trains of any type across the country, including city’s suburban trains," explained an official.
